Florida International Trauma Life Support

Dr. Pete Gianas has been involved in the emergency medical services for over 17 years. Born in Wellsville, New York, Pete received his education at the Johns Hopkins University in Maryland and at the George Washington University in Washington, DC.

Dr. Gianas came to Florida and opened a private practice is Starke, Florida in 1983, where he was "bitten by the EMS bug" and became actively involved in EMS in the north central region of Florida.  

Dr. Gianas  maintains strong ties to the EMTs and Paramedics throughout Florida as: 

Emergency Physician at Bradford Hospital (Shands at Starke), Starke, FL

Medical Director of Alachua, Bradford, Clay and Union Counties and the Santa Fe Community College EMS Programs

Instructor of ACLS (Florida Affiliate), BTLS (Medical Director), PALS and PEPP.

As well, Dr. Gianas is currently serving his second term on the Board of Directors of BTLS International ( www.btls.org ).


 

Dr. Mike Lozano developed his interest in pre-hospital care while in residency. He was born and raised in New York City, attending Syracuse University, and Mount Sinai School of Medicine where he was granted an M.D. degree. He completed a residencies in both internal medicine (NYU-Bellevue) and emergency medicine (Bronx Municipal-Jacobi), He served as a chief resident in his final year of ER residency. Mike then completed a fellowship in EMS offered though the Office of the Medical Director at New York City Emergency Medical Services.

Dr. Lozano moved to Florida in 1994 and practiced at Pinellas County's only trauma center. He moved to Northside Hospital and Heart Institute, where he is the ED medical director and chairman of the Department of Emergency Medicine. He has always been a strong proponent of EMS throughout his career, and has served on numerous advisory boards and committees. He holds instructor certifications in ACLS, PALS, ITLS, and instructor potential in ATLS. He is an Affiliate Assistant Professor at the University of South Florida’s College of Medicine.

Outside of the hospital, he has a strong interest in disaster medicine. He is the medical director for Hillsborough County Fire Rescue and Florida USAR Task Force 3, and deployed with them to several disaster sites including Biloxi, MS after hurricane Katrina. He is the current president of the Florida Association of EMS Medical Directors, and is a member of the Florida Fire Chiefs Association.

He is a longtime member of the planning committee and co-chaired the International Disaster Management Conference sponsored by the Emergency Medicine Learning and Resource Center. He has also served on numerous other committees for the EMLRC, including the ALS/BLS Competition, and ClinCon. He is currently serving on the Board of the Florida College of Emergency Physicians, and chairs their EMS/Trauma Committee.
